General: Road World Cup: German double success in the individual time trial of the U23 men

10 October 2016 by Michael Faiss

News in brief: Marco Mathis is the new U23 World Champion in the individual time trial. The 22-year-old from the Lake Constance district drove a sensational time of 34:08 in Doha today and relegated his compatriot Maximilian Schachmann to second place, 18 seconds behind. Australian Miles Scotson completes the podium. The previously favored U23 European Champion Lennard Kämna just missed the podium with a deficit of 42 seconds on Mathis and four seconds on Scotson.

In difficult, extremely hot conditions, 22-year-old Marco Mathis from the rad-net ROSE team achieved by far the greatest success of his young career. The youngster started as one of the first drivers and set the bar very high for the competition very early on. Only his compatriot Maximilian Schachmann came close to Mathis' sensational time, 18 seconds behind. Lennard Kämna finally missed the third step on the podium by four seconds and had to settle for a thankless fourth place in the end.
