Market / Eurobike: The Dutch manufacturer Koga presented several completely new models at the Eurobike. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the new Colmaro: an endurance all-rounder with an aluminum frame that will also be available as a Gravel version. The new E-Xite e-bike also attracted a lot of curious looks with its simple look and well thought-out solutions.
Koga Colmaro: Universal endurance platform with Gravel genes
The Colmaro is brand new in the portfolio of the Dutch manufacturer founded in the 70s. In the spring, three models will come onto the market for the time being, all of which have one frame in common: Koga uses aluminum here in order to keep prices in an attractive range and at the same time be able to achieve a low weight. The welding seams are smooth - the Colmaro is visually reminiscent of its carbon counterparts. Modern frame features such as a tapered head tube and the press-fit bottom bracket are now de rigueur. The cables and lines run completely inside the frame and clever features such as the integrated clamp for the seat post clamp round off the positive impression. The newcomer will also only be available with disc brakes - the disc stoppers have now clearly outperformed rim brakes, especially in the targeted endurance area.
Koga is particularly proud of the option of equipping the Colmaro with mudguards. What's so special about it? Instead of the well-known screw eyelets for mudguards, hidden mounting points are used here, into which the specially produced plastic mudguards are simply clipped. You only have to screw on the fork: There are two screws on the underside of the fork crown that hold the sheet metal securely in place.
In addition to two endurance models with a 105 or Ultegra group from Shimano, there will also be a gravel racer based on the Colmaro. The latter will be equipped with the Rival 1 11-speed group from SRAM and 35mm tires from Schwalbe turn in the well-dimensioned rear triangle and in the fork. The Gravel version has also been given a carbon post and a more comfortable handlebar. The prices of the Colmaros are not yet 100% certain - the entry-level model will probably be around €1.400, while you will probably have to shell out around €2.000 for the gravel bike. All models will go on sale in spring 2017.
Koga E-Xite: Simple e-bike tourer with a wide range of uses
The E-Xite is also brand new at Koga: the sporty e-bike comes in two versions; While the E-Xite N8 with Shimano Nexus hub gears, a Hebie chain glider, a Koga Feathershock fork and the somewhat smoother Bosch Active Line motor should appeal to touring riders who prefer comfort, the E-Xite also shows its sporty side. The second model, with 10-speed derailleur gears, full carbon fork, hydraulic disc brakes and, above all, the lively Performance CX drive, is clearly aimed at frequent drivers and commuters who are looking for a reliable and, above all, sporty companion for town and country.
Both variants come with 42mm wide tires, fixed mudguards including a simple luggage rack and lighting. Both models will also be available as women's and men's models. From next spring, the new Koga e-bikes should be available for purchase and test rides from specialist dealers. Regarding the prices one keeps a low profile at the moment.
