Cycling: Frank Schleck (Trek-Segafredo) will leave the big stage of cycling at the end of the 2016 season. The Luxembourger announced this at a press conference during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Family reasons in particular were decisive for the decision of the tour third party from 2011.
Fränk Schleck has been lacing his cycling shoes at a professional level since 2003. His greatest successes include victory in the 2006 Amstel Gold Race and overall victories in the 2009 Tour of Luxembourg and the 2010 Tour de Suisse. Now the 36-year-old sees the right time to draw the line under 13 years of professional cycling. "It's never easy to quit something you love to do, but it's always been my plan to quit when I can still perform at a high level. I am very proud to have spent a large part of my life on the bike and I am even more grateful for all the friends I was able to make during this time." said Schleckt in front of the assembled press representatives.
“I will always be a cyclist, but I would like to turn my back on professional cycling. So I can finally spend more time with my family and watch my two children grow up. In recent years, my family and my children have become more and more important to me," the Trek professional justified his step.
However, before he retires from cycling, the Olympic Games are still to come and there are still goals that Schlecht and his team are pursuing for the rest of the season. We hope and wish Frank a worthy end to his career!
