Cycling: German cycling is on the up again! After the drivers from Germany had been able to celebrate great successes again and again in recent years, there is now more and more positive news to report from the organizers. On Tuesday, the UCI officially announced that the race around the Eschborn-Frankfurt financial center will be part of the WorldTour from next season.
Two WorldTour races on German soil in the future
The inclusion in the WorldTour calendar of the traditional spring classic is already the third positive news in recent weeks. Previously, the future of the Cyclassics in Hamburg could be secured, which means that two German WorldTour races will take place from 2017. In addition, the ASO and the BDR announced at the beginning of July that the Germany tour should also be held again from 2018. Although this event will initially only be limited to four stages and will not be part of the WorldTour, the tour will be expanded in the coming years.
Famous names in the list of winners
The race around the Eschborn-Frankfurt financial center has been held since 1962 and was formerly called Around the Henninger Tower. Drivers such as Eddy Merckx, Walter Godefroot, Rudi Altig, Johan Bruyneel, Erik Zabel, Davide Rebellin and John Degenkolb have already cheered when they crossed the finish line. The last two events in 2014 and 2016 went to the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff from Team Katusha. In addition to the professional race, there is also a U23 event and a race for everyone. An inline skating competition has even been held on a similar route since 2007.
A total of ten new races in the WorldTour 2017
