Market: Specialized is hard at work on the road portfolio again this year – for 2017, in addition to a disc brake version of the aero king Venge, there will be a new adventure bike with a steel frame, the Sequoia. With the Allez Sprint you also have a new price/performance hit in the aero area in the program.
Specialized Venge Disc
One of the big highlights of the 2017 model year at Specialized is the disc version of the Venge aero racer presented last summer. The new Specialized Venge Disc is actually similar to its rim brake counterpart in many respects – apart from the braking system, of course. Even the frame weight increases only slightly: the disc frame weighs 50g more. The quick-release axles on the fork and in the rear triangle are new: not only does this increase the rigidity of the entire system, but it also makes it much easier to install the disc brakes without rubbing. While the wheels are seated slightly differently in the dropout seats after each installation and removal when using quick-release skewers, which means that the brake discs rub, the fit is always exactly the same when fastened via a thru-axle - so once the brake is set to be rub-free, it stays that way also.

Buyers can choose between three equipment variants – the top-of-the-line S-Works Venge ViAS Disc eTap, as the name suggests, comes not only with the Aerofly cockpit, but also with SRAM's wireless eTap drivetrain. These are complemented by the appropriately elegant Roval Rapide CLX 64 carbon wheels – 9 are available for this top-of-the-line bike.999€ is due. The Venge ViAS Pro Disc UDI2 is a bit cheaper – for €7.499, it also includes the in-house Aerocockpit, a Shimano Ultegra Di2 drivetrain, and Roval Rapide CL 64 wheels. The most affordable entry into the Venge Disc world is the Venge ViAS Expert Disc Ultegra, with a mechanical Ultegra groupset and DT Swiss R460 Disc Pro aluminum wheels – with 4.999The red/black entry-level model costs €100, but you have to make do without the great Aerofly cockpit.
Specialized Sequoia
New addition to Specialized! With the Sequoia, a completely new model is presented for 2017, which is located in the adventure area and is the slightly more comfortable counterpart to the Evergreen Diverge. The Specialized newcomer comes with a steel frame, which is combined with a FACT carbon fork in the two model variants Elite and Expert, and with a steel fork in the affordable entry-level model Sequoia. The choice of the traditional frame material steel makes perfect sense in view of the area of application of the Sequoia: Not only can the self-damping of the material keep up with much more expensive carbon frames, but such a frame is in a certain way 'indestructible'.
For the Specialized Sequoia, the fact that steel was chosen, a more traditional material for the frame, does not mean that it is not state-of-the-art - for example, all equipment variants come with disc brakes and a modern geometry. Thanks to the generous tire clearance, voluminous tires with a width of 42mm can easily be accommodated and provide the necessary comfort during long journeys of discovery around the world. As befits a bike with such a wide range of uses, the Sequoia has eyelets for fixed fenders and luggage racks.

Specialized Allez Sprint
The (at least in Europe) new Specialized Allez Sprint should actually hit a nerve with many riders. With a modern geometry and frame and tube shapes optimized for aerodynamics, it reflects the zeitgeist on the one hand, and on the other hand the aluminum frame material enables an extremely attractive price - not only by Specialized standards. The frame is complemented by a carbon fork and the Venge seat post – also made of carbon. For the drive, the choice falls on the reliable 105 group from Shimano. Equipped like this, the Specialized Allez DSW SL Sprint Comp is available for only €1.599.
