Spectrum: Tour de France: New console and PC games are in the starting blocks

June 16, 2016 by the editorial office

Spectrum: Today the new, updated versions of the official Tour de France video games are released for Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC. While you slip into the skin of a professional cyclist on the consoles and venture onto the asphalt, in the PC version you take care of your own cycling team as a manager - from season planning to sponsorship contracts.

Tour de France 2016 for Xbox One and Playstation 4

With the new Tour de France 2016, owners of the current generation of consoles get an action racing game in which you can control the skills of a professional cyclist on the road. When to attack? When to conserve energy? Initiate the sprint or rather wait it out? Such tactical considerations are also part of setting the tone in the digital peloton. In addition to the Tour de France with the original routes and locations, other races such as the Dauphiné or the Critérium International can also be played in their entirety this year.

Also new is the multiplayer mode, in which you can keep the competition in check together with a fellow player and use appropriate team tactics. In the Pro-Team mode, you slip into the role of different drivers in a team over several years and can work your team up to the top of the WorldTour. Thanks to the graphics power of the new consoles and a revised engine, the whole thing also looks pretty nice. Thanks to official licenses, all original jerseys and bikes are also available.

Tour de France 2016 / Pro Cycling Manager 2016 for PC

The PC version of the game, also known to fans as Pro Cycling Manager, focuses less on what's happening directly on the tarmac and more on the behind-the-scenes work. As a team manager, you take care of putting together a powerful team, training and developing your protégés accordingly, making individual season plans and finding sponsors.

Last year we took a close look at the 2015 version of the cycling manager. You can find our test here:

Compared to the previous version, the graphics have been improved and the artificial intelligence of the computer-controlled drivers has been improved. The interface, which we criticized somewhat in our test, has also been made more intuitive and makes it easier to get started, which was quite difficult before.
