MTB cycling: Nadine Rieder (AMG-Rotwild) and Simon Gegenheimer (Rose-Vaujany fueled by Ultrasports) came out on top in the battle for the coveted championship jersey at the 5th German Championships in Eliminator Sprint on Saturday. Defending champion David Horvarth from the Lexware mountain bike team secured second place in the rainy Bischofsmais ahead of Toni Partheymüller (KMC-Haibike).
Before the finals, the time trial was on the program on Saturday afternoon. Already here, Simon Gegenheimer made his claim to the championship jersey clear and won the time trial. The gripping finals followed on Saturday evening. From the round of XNUMX to reaching the final, last year's third place in the World Cup consistently continued on its road to success. The northern Black Forest also dominated the final and deservedly won gold.
Last year's winner David Horvarth was extremely impressed by the performance of the new German champion after the race: "That was the maximum, Simon was in a different league and he also has bigger plans in this discipline". Many were surprised by the outstanding performance of 19-year-old Toni Partheymüller, who won his first DM medal with bronze. On the other hand, Felix Klausmann (Link Rad Quadrat), who came third last year, was unlucky as his rear tire burst on the start straight.
Even before the German Championships in the Eliminator Sprint in Bischofsmais, Nadine Rieder was considered the top favorite. The defending champion from Sonthofen dominated the final with ease. A tricky key point was the first corner with rain-soaked cobblestones. “It was my goal to be up there and then do my thing. I never had to go to the limit in the previous runs on the mountain and in the final I even went into the climb with a slight lead,” said Rieder after the race.
The victory run of the old and new German champion was favored by the botched start of her fiercest competitor Lena Putz (Genesis Entireinfr). Bad luck befell Lia Schrievers (CEP Racing) from Bayreuth, who fell behind Rieder while in second place. Lena Putz was able to move up to second place. As a lucky third, 23-year-old Lena Wehrle (Superior-Mio Wildschönau) celebrated her first precious metal in the sprint.
