MTB News: Urs Huber (Team BULLS) has won the legendary Ronda Extrema of the Rocky Mohntain Bike Marathon in Riva on Lake Garda. Huber crossed the finish line with a clear lead over his pursuers Alexey Medvedev (Team Trek-Selle San Marco) and Hermann Pernsteiner (Team Centurion Vaude). Velomotion blogger Lennard Heidenreich from Team Velomotion powered by Centurion finished on the podium in the U23s.
The Ronda Extrema is – at least technically – one of the most demanding races on the annual marathon calendar. Last Saturday, Urs Huber from Team BULLS triumphed in fantastic, early summer conditions after 90,43km full throttle over more than 3.800m of altitude difference. “I am very happy to be on top of the podium here in Riva! I had
good legs right from the start and just did my thing. At some point, Paulissen and Pernsteiner simply couldn’t keep up with my pace. I then threw Medvedev behind on the last climb with a well-aimed attack.” Huber described the course of the race from his point of view.
In the U23 category, Velomotion blogger Lennard Heidenreich finished an impressive third place. Last year, Lennard on Velomotion won a starting place for the Zillertal Bike Challenge in a campaign together with CENTURION and promptly triumphed there in the U23 ranking. Since then he has been collecting top results after top results and the Ronda Extrema fits seamlessly into this success story - even if he still sees a little room for improvement: “I think third place is more or less okay. The gap to the front was quite clear," he said. However, the problems have already been identified: “While things went really well for me uphill and I kept catching people, I had my difficulties going downhill. Large rocks, small rocks, medium rocks and all in the boulder edition. Many of them under deep foliage. Once it was so steep that I got the rear tire on my butt. Now I know why that thing is called Extrema.” Victory went to Adaos Alvarez Franco Nicolas (KTM Torre Bike) ahead of Philip Handl (Team Protek by Marconi Project).
