Market: With the Stromer ST2 S, the Swiss manufacturer is presenting its new premium S-Pedelec with the largest battery in the industry, electronic XTR Di2 gears, support up to 45km/h, four-piston brakes and an integrated anti-theft device. Only a few days ago, the latter was able to track down a pedelec in Prague that had been stolen in Munich thanks to a GPS connection.
It's every bike owner's nightmare: You run unsuspectingly to your set of wheels, which is no longer where you had just connected it. This is what happened on April 8th this year in Munich. The new Stromer ST2 S of a Munich couple was stolen from their basement, which was apparently spied on and broken into. But the thieves reckoned without the integrated anti-theft protection. The owner activated theft mode on the e-bike using a smartphone app. This not only blocks the motor, but also the lights start flashing wildly and can no longer be deactivated on the bike. In addition, it sends a GPS signal that can be located via the app and shows the owner the location of his bike.
This was also the case in the case of the Munich theft: The Stromer ST2 S reported from Prague, more precisely from a bicycle junkyard in the Czech metropolis. The owner acted quickly, got in the car and five hours later was standing in front of a locked house in the said junkyard, where he saw the lights on his e-bike flashing. With the help of the local police, he got his possessions back.
But the premium pedelec from Switzerland offers a lot more than obviously extremely effective anti-theft protection. The Syno-Drive motor, developed in-house and integrated into the rear wheel, delivers 500 watts and supports the rider at speeds of up to 45 km/h. Thanks to the 983Wh battery, the largest of any e-bike currently available, ranges of up to 180km are possible despite the power pack in the rear wheel. The recuperation function, which uses part of the braking energy to charge the battery while driving, also helps here.
The equipment of the Stromer ST2 S is also mouth-watering: It is shifted by the electronic Shimano XTR Di2 group and the Magura MT5, one of the strongest and best brakes currently on the market, provides the necessary braking power. The large-volume tires from Continental and the self-developed carbon fork ensure that comfort does not suffer too much even on bad bike paths. Thanks to the Supernova lighting integrated into the design, which uses a light sensor to switch between daytime running lights and low beams and even offers a 1.600 lumen high beam option for particularly dark roads, driving at night is no problem either.
Of course, a bike like the Stromer ST2 S has its price: the Swiss manufacturer is asking €8.990 for its premium S-Pedelec, which is now available.
