Cycling: Trixi Worrack was able to leave the intensive care unit at the Varese Clinic this morning after her serious fall at the Trofeo Binda on Monday and the emergency surgery that followed. Whether and if so, when the 34-year-old can do competitive sports again is currently still in the stars.
The Lausitzer Rundschau reports, citing the sporting director of Worracks Team Canyon//SRAM Ronny Lauke, that the German champion is in a slightly better condition – after all, she seems to have survived the operation well. A few minutes ago, the team confirmed via Twitter that she was able to leave the intensive care unit.
Thank you everyone for your messages @trixiworrack. She is still in hospital but out of intensive care and now recovering.

She can probably be transferred to a hospital in her home country early next week. The first details of the accident are now known: Apparently, a driver driving directly in front of Worrack fell in a curve, the bike crashed into the guardrail, from there back onto the road and hit the German with full force on the back.
In great pain, the Canyon//SRAM rider, who appeared almost undamaged, was first taken to a local clinic, from where she was then transferred to the larger hospital in Varese and operated on immediately. "It took a while for the doctors to realize the extent of the internal injuries. She had to suffer quite a bit." reports Lauke.
No one wants to reveal any details about the state of health and the severity of the internal injuries - also to protect Worrack himself. But if you read between the lines of Lauke's statements, the future of competitive sports is hanging in the balance: "Trixi was hit very hard. This fall and the consequences took a toll on us all. Now it's all about Trixi getting well again [...] But only when she's discharged from the hospital and really healthy will we think about her future in competitive sports."
Of course, we in the editorial department will continue to keep our fingers crossed and hope that Trixi will get back on its feet quickly!
