Cycling: setback for the Neuseen classics in Leipzig, the biggest race for everyone in Central Germany: The organizers have to cope with the short-term withdrawal of the main sponsor Sparkasse. However, the race will take place on June 19, 2016 as planned. A large-scale crowdfunding campaign should cover part of the cost.
The "neuseen classics - all about lignite" Leipziger Neuseenland is the cycling highlights of Saxony and one of the most important races in Central Germany. Held for the first time in the 1960s, the traditional race has grown steadily since the new edition in 2004. Meanwhile, more than 2.000 participants are pedaling in various everyone's and children's races. The elite race was held again in 2015, in which Robert Förster, who took part in the Tour de France several times and won the stage of the Giro d'Italia, was able to win his home race. The 2016 edition is also well received: 800 cyclists have already registered for the event on June 19, which also belongs to the German Cycling Cup amateur series.
Due to the short-term withdrawal of the main sponsor Sparkasse, a bottleneck in financing has now arisen. But the organizers are determined not only to host the race this year, but also in the years to come. A comprehensive package of measures has been developed in recent weeks. In addition to cost savings and new sponsors, a crowdfunding campaign forms the main part of the campaign, which bears the combative title “Roll on & show chain”. Special road closure costs and other security costs for THW or medical service are to be taken over proportionately.
Depending on the amount of their funding, the supporters receive various benefits in return. These vary from a track sponsorship, a ride in the lead vehicle to naming the home straight. Special highlight: If the organizers do not find a new title sponsor in a timely manner, the title sponsorship will be raffled off among all supporters.
Of course, you also support the organizers by registering for the event. The race for everyone leads either over a 40km, 60km or 120km long dreamlike route through the Leipziger Neuseenland. As in the past, the "neuseen classics 2016" are a cycling festival for young and old. While the youngest cyclists compete in the Bambini and Fette-Reifen races, hobby cyclists can look forward to the traditional cycling tours. For the first time there will be a rally with three tours, all of which will end in the mining technology park.
The declared aim is for the event to be consolidated with the help of many committed cyclists and to remain on the German cycling calendar in the long term.
