Spectrum: RTF+: time trial expands on popular bike tours

Spectrum / mass sport: The desire for performance comparisons does not stop at mass sport. In accordance with the concerns of amateur athletes, the BDR will introduce a new variant of the bike tour with time trials from 2016 with RTF+.

In this model project, the clubs are free to organize a time trial as part of an RTF. In order to establish this project, the Federation of German Cyclists deliberately refrains from exaggerated rules, only organizational recommendations are intended to help the clubs. According to the BDR, this year should primarily serve to gather experience. The Commission is currently looking for event organizers who are open to this new model and have the proverbial courage to get started.

The BDR leaves it up to the hosting clubs and of course the authorities, who have to sign these events in advance, within which framework the time trial takes place. The time trial could take place off or parallel to the RTF route. A time trial with a turning point or a mountain time trial would also be possible. As guidelines, the BDR only states that the time trial should have a route length of 5 to 10 kilometers and should not take place on the actual RTF route for reasons of clarity and safety.

According to the BDR, 16 to 20 model events are planned nationwide this year. Distributing the RTF+ throughout Germany would of course further increase the attractiveness of the new variant for amateur athletes - this is where the local clubs are now called upon. Interested clubs are called upon to register with the Federation of German Cyclists via their state associations by March 30th.
