Product news: Sudden loss of braking power: Shimano recalls roller brakes

15 January 2016 by the editorial office

Market: Shimano is recalling some production lines of its BR-C3000-R, BR-C3010-R and BR-C6000R rear roller brakes. A potential safety issue has been identified that could result in sudden loss of braking power. Only bikes sold after July 1, 2015 are affected.

Shimano emphasizes that to date there have been no known incidents with the identified safety problem - to ensure that it stays that way, they have decided to voluntarily recall the affected roller brakes. The affected models are installed on numerous different complete wheels. You can check whether your brakes are affected as follows:

Affected are only those brakes that   meet the following criteria:

  • It is a BR-C3000-R, BR-C3010-R, BR-C6000R series rear brake (front brakes are NOT affected)
  • The brake bears one of the following production codes: NF, NG, NH, NI, NJ, NK, NL
  • The brake was not marked with a white checkpoint (marked brakes have already been checked and repaired if necessary)

brake recallIf your brakes are affected, leave the bike and make your way to a specialist dealer. The brake will be exchanged there free of charge. Even if you are not sure whether your brakes are affected or not, to be on the safe side, you should consult your dealer, who can then also check the brakes.
