Popular sport: Persevering cycling fans can look forward to a 2016 cycling calendar packed with events. As part of the BDR Cycle Marathon Cup, 21 events will take place nationwide this year. However, the Federation of German Cyclists has not only increased the number of events, but also reduced the requirements for the finisher jersey at the same time.
With the changes that have been decided, participation in the various events will become even more interesting for the starters. Of the 21 bike marathons, cyclists “only” have to successfully complete 5 in order to ultimately receive the coveted finisher jersey. By distributing the events throughout Germany, the time required by the participants should also be kept within limits, which should make the series even more attractive.
The individual events have been awarded the title "particularly recommended" by the state associations, and are therefore not only an advertisement for cycling, but also for the cities, communities and municipalities. It is therefore not surprising that classics such as the Rhön Cycle Marathon in Bimbach, the Bremen Roland Cycle Marathon and the SymBadische Cycle Marathon are important components of the 2016 cycling calendar again this year.
Last year around 20.000 cyclists took part in a total of 16 events. In 2015, 6 cycle marathons still had to be successfully completed to receive the finisher jersey. Almost 200 marathon cyclists received the exclusive jersey last season – just in time for Christmas. Tip: If you register as a series driver with the BDR, you will receive the jersey free of charge after successfully completing the series.
