Cycling: A budget gap of around 300.000 euros could mean the early end of the 2016 Bayern Rundfahrt. Those responsible have until December 20th to open up new options for financing Germany's only stage race for professional cyclists. But whether this will succeed remains to be seen.
As tour guide Ewald Strohmeier announced in the press release, those responsible would have agreed with the planned stage cities to carry out the tour as planned if the budget gap were to be closed by December 20th. The organizer would be responsible to the partners, in particular to the stage cities and the teams. For planning security, a decision must therefore be made by the end of the year as to whether the tour can be held or not.
For months, the organizers have been pursuing the goal of acquiring new partners for the 37th edition of the Bayern Rundfahrt, who will help to further develop the event, particularly with regard to greater TV coverage. If the budget gap cannot be closed by the specified period, the organizers will continue to fight at full speed to continue the Bayern Rundfahrt in 2017. However, a cancellation of the Bayern Rundfahrt 2016 would still be a severe setback for German cycling, also in view of the very successful event in 2015.
