Bahn News: The German squad can record a first partial success at the European Championships in Grenchen with yesterday's performance of the German Bahn foursome. Both the women and the men qualified for the second round in the team pursuit.

Despite the success of the Germans, another nation dominated events: the British. In the men's race, Bradley Wiggins' team won with a superb time of 3:57,277 minutes ahead of the Swiss quartet (3:59,026). The French finished third with a time of 4:00,735 minutes. The German Bahn foursome with Henning Bommel, Leon R. Rohde, Kersten Thiele and Domenic Weinstein definitely still has a little room for improvement. The time of 4:02,341 minutes was ultimately enough for sixth place and thus for the second lap.

The dominance of the British was even more impressive for the women. With a time of 4:21,089 minutes, the British quartet was almost 10 seconds faster than the Russian team, which finished second. The Italian track four followed closely behind. Charlotte Becker, Mieke Kröger, Stephanie Pohl and Gudrun Stock ensured the second partial success of the BDR. With a time of 4:33,326 minutes, they finished fifth and thus also qualified for the next round.

The second round in the team pursuit will be held this afternoon after qualifying in the team sprint. The races for the titles in the team pursuit, team sprint, scratch and points race follow in the evening.
