Market: The Taiwanese manufacturer Mio advertises its Cyclo 200 GPS navigation computer as an entry-level model with the best price-performance ratio. Velomotion took a look at the device.
The Mio Cyclo 200 has a 3,5 inch flat screen with a color touch display. The interface with six large menu items is reminiscent of a smartphone. The application logic is intuitive to use. Similar to in a car, users can navigate from A to B by entering an address. Of course, GPX tracks can also be created on the Internet or downloaded and then traced. The "Surprise Me" function is particularly interesting: the user enters the desired duration or distance of a planned trip and the device calculates three suggested routes with different levels of difficulty. There are no nasty surprises: thanks to the map view on the display and a "Where am I" function, you are always informed about your location and can easily navigate back to the starting point.
The preinstalled map material from OpenStreetMaps covers no fewer than 23 countries in Western Europe. Bike-specific POIs (points of interest) are also preloaded, such as emergency locations, bike shops and restaurants. The device can be regularly updated via a desktop application. Mio claims the battery life to be 10 hours. Wind and weather shouldn't be able to harm the waterproof device.
With the Cyclo 200, Mio particularly wants to appeal to recreational cyclists. European Sales Manager Harold Cobben explains: “Many cyclists don't need a fully connected bike computer with thousands of functions at all. They simply want a navigator that will guide them home on a route appropriate to their bike and skill level. In response to this need, we have expanded our product family with the Cyclo 200. The Cyclo 200 is the perfect companion on the bike - whether for everyday use with the eBike or on a summer trip with your partner." More ambitious athletes will find devices in the Mio product portfolio that integrate numerous training functions and are also compatible with power meters, such as the Cyclo 315 models or Cyclo 505.
All in all, the Mio Cyclo 200 looks high-quality and offers appealing functions. In particular, the clearly structured and intuitive menu navigation is pleasing. However, the device, which can be mounted either on the stem or the handlebars, is quite tall. However, Mio is currently developing a bracket with which the computer can be mounted in front of the handlebars. The Mio Cyclo 200 is available now and costs €179,99.
