Market: The bicycle manufacturer Canyon is always good for an innovation. At the Eurobike, the Koblenz-based company showed an app-based computer integrated into the handlebars.
In cooperation with Sony, Canyon has developed a bike computer that communicates with the user's smartphone. Any Android app can be downloaded and accessed. The Smart Bike Computer (SBC) thus offers almost unlimited configuration options. New developments or updates can be downloaded at any time, so that the system can always be kept up to date.
Whether map views, training programs, music or news, the SBC should make all the advantages of modern smartphone apps available. For example, new routes can be explored via the navigation app komoot and the training can then be shared via the Strava community. Heart rate, cadence and power meters can be displayed on Canyon's bike computers via Bluetooth.
The SBC is elegantly integrated into the handlebars and is available for Canyons mountain bikes, racing bikes and urban bikes. The device can be removed from the handlebars using a sliding mechanism that is as simple as it is stable. It features a 1,6-inch touchscreen with an anti-reflective LCD surface. Canyon specifies the battery life as eight to ten hours. Prices are not yet known, the start of sales is planned for spring 2016.
