Market: The Swiss bike manufacturer BMC is expanding its range in 2016 – including inexpensive models. The aim is "to be more present in specialist shops than ever before".
BMC divides its road bike models into five series: Altitude, Endurance, Aero, Track and Cross. “Normal” road racing bikes trade under the name Altitude. In addition to the well-known carbon racers, a model made of aluminum will be added in 2016. The ALR01 has a 1295g lightweight (painted) aluminum frame, full carbon fork and is available in 5 frame sizes including a 47cm frame. Four versions are offered (Ultegra, 105, Tiagra and Sora). The Cross series is also growing with the CXA01 made of aluminium. The all-round cross bike is approved for racing, but can also be used as a trendy gravel bike. It is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes and can be equipped with mudguards and a luggage rack. According to BMC, the new aluminum bikes should also offer technically advanced bicycles for manageable budgets while preserving the basic BMC values: Swiss, premium, performance.
A trend towards more color runs through the majority of the BMC models in 2016. Numerous bikes come completely painted with a fresh look. When it comes to equipment, BMC relies on proven Shimano components. In addition, the cockpit dimensions have been adjusted. There is also something new in the Endurance series: The Granfondo comfort models of the GF01 series rely exclusively on disc brakes and have a smart chain catcher. The GF02 series includes four models with rim brakes and two with disc brakes. These are suitable for mounting a luggage rack and mudguards, for mechanical and electronic shifting, have a carbon fork and are available in 6 sizes.
There are no changes in the Aero series, which includes aerodynamically optimized road racers and time trial cars. The Timemachine TMR range is available in 6 size configurations and the Timemachine TM range is available in 4 size configurations. This year's frameset features the BMC Racing Team's much-requested "Testing the Future" color scheme: nothing but bare carbon and white decals.
Last but not least, BMC remains true to track cycling with its Track series and presents the TR02 aluminum model, a cheap track bike for young up-and-coming riders or budget-conscious track riders. It is available in 4 sizes including XS.
If you take all models of the four product series together, BMC offers no fewer than 2016 different racing bikes in 40 - a very broad portfolio in order to meet its own claim of "being more present in specialist shops than ever before".
