Market: Schwalbe has revised its previous tubeless technology and taken it to a new level. It was possible to make the tubeless construction even lighter and faster. The new Schwalbe Pro One road bike tire weighs an impressive 70 grams less than its predecessor.
MikcroSkin is the name of Schwalbe's development, which makes the difference compared to the tubeless tires from the previous year. A high-strength micro fabric lays the foundation for the new patent, which is vulcanized together with the rubber compound and the carcass. Similar to SnakeSkin on MTB tires, MikcroSkin encases the entire carcass and ensures problem-free Tubeless Easy operation.
Tubeless Easy tires have long proven themselves on mountain bikes. “Thanks to the MicroSkin construction, we can now implement the principle for high-pressure tires for the first time. The fabric takes on several important functions at the same time: It ensures tightness. It guarantees the reliable high-pressure stability. And by the way, it also improves all-round cutting safety.", explains Peter Krischio.
The new Schwalbe Pro One has now emerged from this new technology. At only 235 grams, it is a whopping 25 percent, i.e. 70 grams, lighter and should therefore roll faster. In the laboratory, there was a 10 percent difference in rolling resistance – an impressive result.
In addition to the better rolling properties, the ease of assembly is said to have been significantly improved. Long conversion processes with intensive shaking and frequent pumping are no longer necessary and the tightness of the system should also be optimized.
Schwalbe is presenting four new Tubeless Easy tires at the Eurobike, making it the first manufacturer ever to offer tubeless tires for almost all purposes:
Schwalbe Pro One – racing bike
Schwalbe S One – spring classic
Schwalbe X One – Cyclocross
Schwalbe G One – Gravel Road
“With this range, we want to significantly advance tubeless technology. The system has the potential to assert itself in professional street racing and one day to replace the tubular tire system. In terms of performance, the tires leave previous folding and tubular tires far behind.", sums up Peter Krischio.
The tires from the new Pro One family will be available from specialist bike shops from 2016 and cost from EUR 59,90.
