Test: Almost everything that the Kirchmair Cycling Team rides in the race comes from Mavic and complements the KTM Revelator to a perfect racing machine. Team boss Stefan Kirchmair introduces us to the new Mavic Cosmic Ultimate racing shoe, which he recently ridden in some of his successes, such as the Supergior Dolomiti.
The great thing about our main sponsor Mavic is that we not only get to ride their great wheels, but that we can also use other highlights of the Mavic collection. One of these highlights is undoubtedly the Cosmic Ultimate shoe; a dream shoe for many racing cyclists and rightly so.
Admittedly, for 330 euros a shoe should deliver everything it promises; Weaknesses are actually a taboo at this level. The Cosmic Ultimate literally catches your eye. It was a successful marketing coup by the French from the start to throw bright yellow shoes into the peloton. It doesn't matter whether it's a professional or a peloton for everyone - everyone will recognize a Mavic shoe from a hundred meters away.
In addition to the striking looks, Mavic shoes have been synonymous with some of the lightest shoes you can afford since their inception. My personal size 226 shoe weighs 43 grams.
The closure can be perfectly adapted to the foot thanks to the new Ergo-Dial closure. Even while driving I can tighten or loosen a nuance. The Ergo-Dial is supplemented by two Ergo-Straps Velcro fasteners, the well-known Mavic fasteners, which were again slightly lighter.
Almost every detail on the shoe bears the name of a Mavic patent. And every detail has its justification and somehow makes the shoe a little bit better, more comfortable or simply less conspicuous. Because nothing ennobles a racing bike shoe more than not being able to feel it even after a few hours. Of these details, I personally particularly appreciate the stiff and thin sole, thanks to which the distance between the foot and the pedal axle is absolutely minimal.
The Cosmic Ultimate is also available in white for those who find the bright yellow too conspicuous.
