Test: The Xtreme brand is now well known to many cyclists and mechanics in Germany and beyond. This is the brand name under which the Bocholt direct mailer ROSE sells its own accessory products. Most of these convince with a very good price/performance ratio - so also with the Xtreme Airik telescopic XL mini pump?
Xtreme Airik Telescope XL – The data
[easy table th=“0″]Length,190 mm
Weight,123g
valves,Presta / car valve
maximum pressure,5.5 Bar
application,MTB
Pressure after 200 strokes (29×2.2),1.74 bar
[/easy table]The 19cm small pump comes in plain, shiny black. The processing makes a convincing impression, the exterior of the pump is made of aluminum, only the air piston has one or two small plastic parts. However, the choice of material is also reflected in the weight: 123g is quite a lot for such a small pump, but 20g or not should probably only be decisive for a few interested parties.

The pump head of the Xtreme Teleskop XL fits both Sclaverand and conventional car valves and is therefore prepared for most areas of application. The non-compatible Dunlop valves are being used on fewer and fewer bikes anyway. In addition to the pump itself, there is also a very good frame mount hidden in the packaging, which can be screwed to the frame instead of a bottle holder. The pump sits well in it, doesn't rattle and doesn't jump out even in rough terrain. However, most bikers will probably stow such a compact pump in their backpack or even in their jersey pocket anyway.
As the name of the small black pump already suggests, a 2-stage telescopic piston is hidden inside. This not only saves space, but should also offer significantly more pump volume than comparable, simple air pistons. Our practical test clarifies whether this is true. The first thing that catches the eye here is the successful clamping mechanism on the pump head: Whether it's a French valve or a car valve - the pump was always tight and sealed perfectly. In order to switch from one valve type to the other, however, the insert must be unscrewed and turned around - other manufacturers sometimes solve this more elegantly. On the other hand, you usually only need one of the two valve types anyway.
The pump performance of the Xtreme Airik Teleskop XL was really excellent. After 200 strokes, our test tire (29 inches, 2,2″ width) already had 1,74 bar - the airik even outperforms one or the other much larger pump. The hand forces are also in the tolerable range, although you have to work with a little emphasis from 1,5 bar.
