cycling: BMC Teamelite 01 - an evolution for racing

11 May 2015 by Rick Schubert

Market: With the help of the stars of the BMC Mountain Bike Racing Team, BMC has constructed a new evolutionary stage of the team elite. The result is said to be the most technically advanced hardtail mountain bike on the market.

Like many other sports, the Cross Country discipline has become more and more extensive in recent years. Exhausting uphill sprints require very light and highly efficient bikes that don't pay any attention to flexibility and have to master extreme single trails downhill.

The 2016 BMC Teamelite 01 is the pinnacle of high-performance mountain bike development. Its unique combination of efficiency, traction and anti-fatigue compliance technology put it in a league of its own and raised the bar for the industry to a whole new level.
In the last two years, BMC engineers have developed the carbon design and tested countless MTB prototypes in the in-house Impec Lab in Grenchen. After a final test phase with the stars from the BMC MTB Racing Team around world champion Julien Absalon, we can confidently speak of a revolutionary new development.

Both the technical features and the carbon structure enable a rear end compliance of 15mm.
It is structurally supported by the double-guided and fully integrated XCell damping, which significantly increases the lateral and torsional frame rigidity. In addition, the use of advanced carbon technologies for the chainstays and seatstays from the Impec Lab has the advantage that the pedaling properties are not restricted and at the same time the usual high bottom bracket stiffness is achieved.

And the icing on the cake? All of these valuable extras enable a frame weight of an unbeatable 1,080 grams - without compromising on performance.

In addition to the compliance benefits of the new hardtail bike, the bike's rear triangle has been given a facelift. This came in the form of a 142mm thru-axle and a new frame design that makes integrated cable routing a breeze.

"To be honest: When I tried the new MTT Technology, I expected a compromise", says Julien Absalon, “Now I'm convinced it climbs as well as last year's model; but downhill has that certain something that we have been longingly waiting for. I'm very happy to have this 'head start'.”

The Big Wheel Concept geometry (BWC) is retained for the 29-inch wheels. The 2016 Teamelite 01 will be available in five different sizes (XS/S/M/L/XL), with the XS model having an additional 85mm of clearance compared to last year's same-sized model.
