Cycling: Olympic champion Jaroslav Kulhavy will compete in the European marathon championships in Singen and race through the Hegau alongside defending champion Christoph Sauser. This promises the highest quality class for the Rothaus Hegau Bike-Marathon on May 10th.
When Jaroslav Kulhavy takes the lead in a marathon, the rest of the workforce has to buckle up and hold on. "The Locomotive" is how they christened it at Cape Epic in South Africa. The lanky Czech develops an incredible dynamic in flat sections and so it was not surprising that he and his Specialized teammate Christoph Sauser were able to win the Cape Epic for the second time after 2013.
How seriously does Kulhavy take the European Marathon? Two weeks before the cross-country world cup in his Czech homeland? “This is definitely good preparation for the World Cup. I might go to 90 percent. The track looks good and doesn’t seem that hard”, explains Kulhavy. Well, not everyone will probably sign that, but when the current marathon world champion says so, then this statement is put into perspective again.
“I will try to get the best possible result”, he says. But it is also possible that it "Collaborations" come and he supports another driver.
On the one hand, his brand companion Christoph Sauser comes into consideration. The Swiss won the European Championship title in Ireland in 2014 and is practically on a farewell tour. The Rothaus Hegau Bike Marathon will be the last European Championship in the career of the almost 39-year-old, after the World Championships in June the Swiss will stop. With 13 World Cup victories, four overall World Cup successes and a total of four world championship titles, Sauser is one of the real legends of mountain bike sport after more than 15 years at the top of the world.
In Singen in 2013, his gear system played a trick on him just a few hundred meters before the finish, so that he only finished second behind Alban Lakata. Of course he wants to catch up on what he missed.
Perhaps with the help of Lokomotiv Kulhavy. But he could also pedal for his compatriot Kristian Hynek. The national teams also play a role in international championships.
