Product news: Specialized Power saddle: a revolution for the butt?

March 4, 2015 by Michael Faiss

Specialized Power

Market: Specialized recently invited to their Germany HQ in Holzkirchen near Munich to present some new and updated products for this spring. Including the long-awaited new power saddle.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the event was the new saddle, which has the promising name "Power". The new shape, based on the Sitero triathlon saddle, takes the saddle to a completely new level in terms of comfort - from triathlon to racing bikes to cross-country.

Specialized Power

The developers' approach was as follows: the nose of conventional saddles is the part of the saddle that causes pain and numbness in the perineal area, especially when the saddle is bent forward. The conclusion: get rid of it! So the power looks really strange at first sight: Quite wide at the end and extremely short overall. Whether this approach works and whether the power is really an option in just about every area of application, you can find out in a timely test with us.

Specialized Power

The saddle will be available in three variants: Comp, Pro and S-Works. While the latter version relies on a carbon shell and carbon rails, Specialized uses a nylon shell with carbon reinforcement and titanium struts on the Comp and Pro versions. Comp and Pro only differ in the thickness of the padding. Due to the small form factor, the power saddle also achieves an impressive weight: the S-Works variant weighs just 159g. The Power will be available from mid-March.
