cycling: Simon Geschke breaks his collarbone at Tirreno-Adriatico

Cycling: Simon Geschke from Team Giant-Alpecin crashed on yesterday's stage near Tirreno-Adriatico after a collision with the team vehicle and broke his collarbone. This forced the 29-year-old to take a break of several weeks.

Geschke experienced technical problems during the leg to Terminillo and waited for the team car, which eventually passed him and he followed at a slow pace. When the vehicle stopped, the Berliner hit the rear and fell. The whole incident happened at a very low speed, but with great consequences: the collarbone on the right side is broken. His coach Kemna reports: “Sometimes it hits you a lot harder in those slow, smaller falls. He knew immediately it was broken and now we have certainty about it too. Now the rehab will start straight away and then we’ll see how we can get him fit again as quickly as possible.”

This means that Geschke will be absent at least for the upcoming spring classics. There is still no forecast as to when he will be able to get back on his bike. We're keeping our fingers crossed that he'll be back in action as soon as possible!
