Cycling: With Markus Kaufmann, one of the German hopes for the European Marathon Championships in Singen/H. injured. The German Vice Champion in the marathon distance broke his collarbone in Andalusia and has to do without the Cape Epic in South Africa. Tim Böhme had to give up in Spain with stomach cramps, but is healthy again and in good spirits for the European Championships as part of the Rothaus Hegau Bike Marathon on May 10th.
Tim Böhme and his partner from Team Bulls, Simon Stiebjahn, had to retire from the Andalucia Bike Race, but the participation of last year's third-placed rider in the renowned Cape Epic stage race is not in danger.
"I'm healthy, not fit yet, but there are still two weeks left", said Tim Böhme last weekend. The Cape Epic begins on March 15th. From there, the German marathon champion also wants to take momentum with him for the European Championships on home soil.
This is for Markus Kaufmann "next big goal" become. The businessman who lives in Meckenbeuren, who became German champion for the first time in 2012 in Singen, broke his collarbone in Andalusia in a fall on the fifth of six stages. So the successful pairing with his Centurion-Vaude team colleague Jochen Käß ended. Both have won the last two editions of the Bike Transalp together and also wore the yellow jersey at the Cape Epic in 2014 before a broken frame put an end to the dream of victory.
“Obviously, the injury is super unfortunate. I had trained so well and hard aiming at Cape Epic”, regrets Kaufmann. An operation was not necessary due to the clean fracture. Now alternative training methods should preserve the form as much as possible. In mid-April he wants to get back into the competition so that he can be fully back three or four weeks later at the Rothaus Hegau Bike Marathon.
