Tabor: The U23 riders started the second day of the Cyclocross World Championship on a course that had frozen overnight. The Belgians dominated the race from the start. Michael Vanthourenhout secured the victory with 10 seconds ahead of his compatriot Laurens Sweeck. Shortly behind, Dutchman Stan Godrie finished third.
With the starting gun, the Belgian and Dutch drivers took the lead. Always there is the favorite Laurens Sweeck; only at the end of the third lap was Michael Vanthourenhout able to break away from his opponents. He was able to defend this lead for the last 3 laps. Behind them, a three-way battle developed between Sweeck, Godrie and Frenchman Venturini. Venturini couldn't keep up with the high speed until the end. The battle for second place was decided when Godrie slipped and lost a few yards on Sweeck.
The two German starters had to deal with defects and falls today and fell a little short of their expectations. Felix Drumm finished 27th and Paul Lindenau finished 23rd at his first U33 World Championship.
