News: As Velomotion already reported, the Grossglockner mountain duathlon will take place on July 18th and 19th, 2015 for the first time. Almost three months after the announcement, half of the starting places have already been taken. The new classification consists of the Glockner Bike Challenge (July 18, 2015) and the Grossglockner Mountain Run (July 19, 2015). The road race, held for the first time, leads from Heiligenblut via the car-free Grossglockner High Alpine Road to the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Höhe and ends, like the Grossglockner Mountain Run, directly under the highest mountain in Austria.
The exclusive Grossglockner mountain duathlon ranking, limited to 400 participants, has been very popular since its premiere. 13 nations have already registered for the event, half of the starting places have been booked. Organizer Julius Rupitsch: "We expect to sell out early at the premiere of the mountain duathlon classification." 400 starting places have already been reserved for the Grossglockner Bike Challenge. "It is probably the dream of every cyclist to complete a bike race on the car-free Grossglockner High Alpine Road and finish with a view of the Grossglockner."
The Grossglockner mountain running route leads from Heiligenblut via forest paths and single trails to the Franz-Josef-Höhe. This demands everything from the participants with its 12,9 kilometers and 1.494 meters in altitude. The selective cycle route of the Grossglockner Bike Challenge also starts in Heiligenblut and leads via the Grossglockner High Alpine Road to the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Höhe. The bike course covers 17,3 kilometers and 1.345 meters in altitude.
