cycling: Granfondo Stelvio Santini: In the footsteps of Coppi and Pantani

9 January 2015 by the editorial office

Cycling: On June 7th the Granfondo Stelvio Santini will take place and will take participants over legendary passes such as the Mortirolo and the Stelvio. The organizers are already looking forward to almost 1000 registrations.

Stelvio and Mortirolo - there's probably hardly a cycling fan out there who doesn't get a little goosebumps from these two names. Cycling history has been written countless times on these two notorious passes, by legends such as Fausto Coppi or Marco Pantani. The Santini Granfondo Stelvio now makes it possible for everyone to experience up close how close pain and joy can be there.

The Granfondo Stelvio will take place for the fourth time this coming June. More than 1.300 drivers took part last year and at the moment it looks as if this number will be significantly exceeded in 2015 - also thanks to the numerous registrations from all over the world. Organizer Paola Santini can hardly put her happiness into words: “We are overjoyed with the progress so far. Despite our lack of large advertising campaigns, more sign-ups are coming in than ever before.”

Participants will be able to choose between three routes: Short (60km), Medium (137,9km) and Long (151,3km). Although the Mortirolo will only be part of the long route, the other two distances are no picnic either: the Stelvio with its arrival at 2758m is waiting for all participants.
