Cycling: The Garmin Velothon has been held annually in the capital since 2008. In addition to the elite race, in which the pros start, the heart of the event is the amateur event. Registration is open since noon today. Also new this year is a race for fixed gear bikes only.
The organizers of the Garmin Velothon in Berlin have registered up to 13.000 participants in recent years - the race is one of the largest events for everyone in Germany. On May 31st it's that time again and tens of thousands of cycling fans will gather in the capital. This year there will again be two routes to choose from for the amateur race.
60km
The short route is primarily aimed at hobby drivers and beginners who want to enjoy the special atmosphere of the event and the capital. The route is mostly flat and leads the field past numerous Berlin sights.
120km
The long route is aimed at the more ambitious cyclists who want to measure themselves against thousands of others in a relaxed setting and explore their performance limits. The route takes the field out of the capital and through neighboring Brandenburg.
As mentioned at the beginning, registration has been open since 12 noon today at www.garmin-velothon-berlin.de
