cycling: IAM Cycling receives World Tour license - Astana falls through for the time being

5 December 2014 by Verena Rosenstingl

Tour of Qatar - Stage TwoCycling: The world cycling association UCI awards one of the free World Tour licenses to the Swiss team IAM Cycling. Astana and Europcar still have to wait for their license.

It had already been announced in advance of the final decision. The merger of Cannondale and Garmin Sharp freed up a World Tour license and IAM Cycling had applied for it. The World Federation has now decided: IAM Cycling will be promoted from Pro Continental status to the World Tour and will therefore be represented at all major races in the 2015 season.

Unlike IAM, Kazakh team Astana are yet to await a decision regarding their 2015 license. Due to the doping cases that have occurred in recent months, the UCI License Commission has postponed the final decision until next week. Astana has already announced that in the event of a negative decision, they will appeal to the Supreme Sports Court. The future is also still uncertain for the French team Europcar. They too have to wait for the decision on your license.

What is certain, however, is that there will again be a German team on the World Tour in 2015. Giant-Alpecin, the team of John Degenkolb and Marcel Kittel, is driving under a German license in 2015.
