cycling: BDR on the road to success: 28 world and European champions in 2014

Cycling: The BDR can look back on one of the most successful years in its history. The facts speak for themselves: 28 gold medals, 28 silver medals and 19 bronze medals at world and European championships - not only the BDR is happy!

In this context, the train driver Kristina Vogel should certainly be mentioned as an absolute high-flyer. With four titles, including three World Championship titles, the Erfurt native is at the top of the success table for German athletes. In general, track cycling was extremely strong this year. So Miriam Welte can close the 2014 season with two world championship titles in team sprint and time trial. In the juniors, Doreen Heinze and Emma Hinze won gold in the team sprint at the World and European Championships. The men also ensured a good record for the BDR team: Joachim Eilers became European champion in the keirin and team sprint, Stefan Bötticher won silver in the sprint at the World Championships.

Also outstanding in the 2014 season was Dominik Oswald from Ettenheim. In the 20 inch trial, the trial driver won gold at the juniors' World Championships (additional gold in the team World Championships) and gold at the European Championships. Despite some successes, the coveted gold at the World Championships and European Championships did not materialize for the mountain bikers. However, the indoor cyclists proved to be very successful, with four titles, three second places and one third place at the World Championships alone. The balance of the street athletes can also be seen positively. Seven stage victories on the Tour and three rainbow jerseys in the street title fights in Ponferrada round off the very good record of the BDR.
