General: Vincenzo Nibali on the Astana doping cases

Cycling: Yesterday we reported on the fourth Astana doping case in three months. Kazakh Victor Okishev tested positive during the Asian Championships in May this year and is currently suspended. Tour de France winner and teammate Vincenzo Nibali is extremely upset with the behavior of his colleagues and demands appropriate penalties.

Two days after the fourth doping case of an Astana team rider was announced, team captain and this year's Tour winner Vincenzo Nibali speaks up. In an interview with the Italian media, Nibali is extremely upset and demands a fair punishment. "I found out about the last doping case via the Internet and didn't dare turn on my PC. I haven't checked my email for two days and should have just skipped it. People connect me with the doping cases, which is cheeky. The behavior of some sucks. I hope the association will hold the people responsible accountable and make them pay a heavy price.", Nibali told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Nibali was also accused of doping after his tour victory without having tested positive. "I hope that every doper gets caught. If ten more sinners are caught, I'll be even happier because it means there are tests that actually work and convict. I don't have to blame myself, I have a clear conscience and I am not responsible for their actions.", explains Nibali.
