Cycling: The Swiss Pro Continental Team IAM Cycling could be promoted to the World Tour, thereby closing the gap created by the merger of Cannondale and Garmin Sharp.
Team IAM Cycling has agreed to move up, changed its application to the UCI and applied for a spot on the World Tour, completing the 2015 World Tour with 18 teams. The final decision on the IAM license now lies with the UCI License Commission and will be made during the UCI meeting from 19.-21. fall in November.
The team, which includes the French time trial world champion Sylvain Chavanel and the newly crowned hour world record holder Matthias Brändle, meets the sporting requirements, but would have to increase its squad again if the UCI were to upgrade it. In order to be able to meet the challenges of the World Tour, the official minimum is 26 riders and IAM would have to hire three more athletes.
