Test: It is no coincidence that Shimano shoes are among the most popular models. Fit and performance have always been very important to the Japanese.
This is also the case with the XC61, although we noticed a few small shortcomings in the test.
Even when trying on the Shimano for the first time XC61 you feel extremely comfortable - as long as the width in the toe area fits. This was not the case with one of our testers. Apart from that, however, the shoe feels very comfortable.
With two Velcro fasteners, which can be closed in opposite directions, and a ratchet, the shoe can be adjusted very well on the instep. The special cross-xThe closure minimizes the pressure on the instep and prevents annoying pressure points even after several hours.
However, the ratchet does not go in the same direction as the Velcro straps. It twists when you close it, feeling like you're breaking it off.
At first glance, the sole looks very grippy and can be made even more grippy in the forefoot area with two cleats that are included in the scope of delivery. However, the sole feels relatively thin in the front area, which only leaves a limited positive impression when pedaling. However, crossers should be happy about this, because it increases comfort on running passages. The shoe literally bites into the ground and offers extremely good propulsion even on the steepest climbs.
Conclusion
The Shimano XC61 is a very good training shoe that offers a good fit and is a real alternative for crossers thanks to its good running properties. However, mountain bikers who rarely take their foot off the pedal might want a model with a stiffer sole.
