Test: The Swedish protector manufacturer POC caused a stir last year together with Ryder Hesjedal. The Canadian wore glasses that were unique in design and visually different from all other models that are currently circulating in cycling.
Since this year, the POC Thu Blade now also available for everyone. We were allowed to take a closer look at the glasses, which cost 249 euros, in the past few weeks.
As soon as we unpack the glasses, we first notice their low weight. Added to this is the idiosyncratic look. The lens, which can be changed via a small bar above the nose clip, is large and anti-fog. In just a few seconds, you quickly have a clear view again, and that's a good thing. Even on long descents with short counter ascents, you can keep a good view - despite drops of sweat on the pane.
The fog protection results mainly from the small ventilation slots that are incorporated between the glass and the frame. The glass manufactured by Carl Zeiss is tinted, but allows the glasses to be used in different light conditions.
The large, albeit simple-looking design of the Thu Blade However, it does not fit every helmet, which is why you should check before you buy whether there could be any problems in this regard. In addition, there are the narrow temples, which only offer limited flexibility. However, this does not detract from the comfort.
Conclusion
The POC Thu Blade is visually different and certainly not for everyone. However, if you are looking for something special, you will get high-quality glasses for the high price that do not have to hide from models from other manufacturers.
