cycling: André Greipel ends the season as the most successful professional

Cycling: Rostock's André Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) once again ended the 2014 season as the most successful professional in the peloton. This year he was able to add 16 successes to his palmarès.

Greipel began his hunt for success back in January at the Santos Tour Down Under, where he won stages 4 and 6 of the day. A few weeks later he continued his journey in Qatar and Oman.

However, the real highlights followed in the summer. In Baunatal, he initially managed to successfully defend the title of German champion he had won the previous year. A few days later he was allowed to cheer in the white jersey with the three stripes on the 6th stage of the Tour de France in Reims.

In autumn he finally underlined his long-term form on the doorstep of the sponsor and secured victory at the Brussels Cycling Classic. There are also other victories in smaller races.

With 16 wins this season, Greipel relegates Frenchman Arnaud Demaré (FDJ.fr) to second place. The reigning French champion has 15 wins. Marcel Kittel (Giant-Shimano) and Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) share third place, both of whom can look back on prestigious successes at the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France, or classics such as the Scheldeprijs and Milan-San Remo.
