19 October 2014 by Veit Hammer

Cycling: The BDR runs a very good track European Championship and was able to increase its medal count by five precious metals.

Joachim Eilers from Chemnitz presented silver in the time trial over 1000 meters. In the end, the 24-year-old only had to admit defeat to Brit Callum Skinner – the time is always great: 1:02,474 minutes. It also went well for Eric Engler, who finished fifth.

In the women's 500 meter time trial, reigning world champion Miriam Welte took bronze. Only Anastasiia Voinova from Russia and Elis Ligtlee from the Netherlands improved their time of 34,842 seconds.

There was also bronze in the individual pursuit, in which Kersten Thiele relegated his teammate Nils Schomber to fourth place after 4:32,878 minutes. Gold went to Britain's Andrew Tennant.

The BDR was also able to celebrate in the short-term disciplines. Robert Förstemann took third place after losing to eventual European champion Gregory Bauge in the semi-finals. Silver went to Nikita Shurshin. Kristina Vogel also took third place in the women's sprint. Here the Russian Voinova secured her second title. In the final she defeated the Spaniard Tania Calvo Barbero.
