Cycling: In the end, the time trial of the U23s resembled a thriller, with the main characters separating them by just 38 seconds after almost 0,48 kilometers. The Australian Campbell Flakemore secured the title, continuing his country's success story at this World Cup.
Irishman Ryan Mullen came second, passing all split times as the fastest and duping the previously leading Portuguese Rafael Reis. For his part, Reis had beaten South African Louis Meintjes by more than twenty seconds.
The final could not have been more exciting. Both Flakemore and reigning European Champion Stefan Küng (Switzerland) were just under 20 seconds behind Mullen in the final kilometers. However, on the last climb a good four kilometers from the finish and on the rain-soaked track, both managed to make up time on the Irishman. Küng eventually finished third, 9 seconds back.
The two Germans Maximilian Schachmann and Nils Politt also drove a strong race, finishing fifth and 12th in the end.
