Test: The field of bicycle lighting was revolutionized a few years ago with the triumph of LEDs. More and more large and small manufacturers are trying to gain a foothold in the competitive and confusing market. So does the small Australian manufacturer Twowheelcool. For a short time now, the products from Oceania have also been available from us. We took a closer look at one of the light gadgets, the Twowheelcool Omni.
When you first look at the light, the shape and design will probably cause a bit of irritation for many people. That's what happened to our testers - the lamp looks unwieldy, big and the benefits are not immediately apparent. To anticipate: Rarely is the first impression more deceptive and initial irritation has given way to enthusiasm. But one after the other.
In any case, the inner values of the lamp are convincing. The three really extremely bright LEDs are powered by an internal battery. According to the manufacturer, a full charge should be sufficient for 4 hours of continuous lighting or 45 hours in flashing mode. The battery is charged via the supplied USB cable. In addition to the normal permanent light, two flashing modes and a pulsating light can also be selected. The Omni is available in almost every imaginable color from red to purple to transparent.
But now to the most important thing: the shape of the lamp. The actual light is encased in an extremely robust-looking shell made of elastic silicone. The material makes a high-quality impression and doesn't leave your fingers with an unpleasant rubber smell - we've had completely different experiences with other lights here, thumbs up for that. The cover acts like a strap that can be hooked back onto the lamp itself. After some trial and error, this construction reveals almost infinite mounting options. Whether on the bike frame, seat post, bag or backpack. There is something everywhere where the Omni can be attached effortlessly and at the same time non-slip. Our testers were particularly impressed by the option of using the Omni as a leg strap - this way, the pants don't get caught in the drive and you have really strong additional lighting, which provides a significant safety bonus in road traffic.
The Omni convinced in the practical test. As already mentioned, the LEDs are very bright and can be seen well over a long distance. Although the beam angle is not too large due to the design, it can be partly compensated by the high luminosity. In any case, the lamp proved to be the ideal companion through the nocturnal urban jungle. It can be attached to the bike or clothing in a flash and the LEDs are bright enough even for poor visibility.
And finally ...
The Twowheelcool Omni managed to turn our testers from skeptics into true fans in record time. Technology, workmanship and design were convincing all along the line and make the bright all-round talent the perfect accessory for the German urban jungle.
