General: Daniel Knyss third at the Jedermann Mecklenburg Giro

September 15, 2014 by the editorial office

The Jedermann Mecklenburg Giro ended on Sunday with a thankless third place for Daniel Knyss. The captain of our Merkur Cycling Team had to cede victory to his toughest rival in the German Cycling Cup, Marek Bosniatzki from the Rad-Equipe Bürstner Duemo, and suffered a setback in the fight for the championship jersey.

With his sprint victory after 164 kilometers in front of Paul Sicking (Lock8 Cycling Team) and Daniel Knyss, defending champion Bosniatzki took the lead in the overall standings of the national racing series before the last two races. Daniel Knyss is now second overall with 3.767 points, 38 points behind Bosniatzki (3.805). Friedrich Schweizer, who finished fifth in the amateur race in Mecklenburg, follows with 3.739 points. The Merkur Druck riders Christian Dengler (6th), Stefan Räth (7th), Till Baltes (9th) and Christoph Mönig (10th) underline the team strength and unity of Merkur Cycling with their top ten places in the overall ranking teams. Evergreen Bernd Weinhold is eleventh overall.

“We should actually be very satisfied with the results of the current season. But the unfortunate outcome of the race throws us back in the German amateur championship. This year, winning the overall ranking was a self-declared goal. Now it's going to be really difficult for Daniel again.", knows main sponsor Markus Adam. "But anyone who knows him and the team knows that the boys don't give up that easily."

Numerous victories and podium finishes, not only in the German Cycling Cup, are on the list of annual successes for the amateur racing team, which is sponsored by Norderstedter Merkur Druck. In addition, our drivers lead in the age groups. "Even if it doesn't end up being enough for Daniel in the overall standings, one mustn't forget that we can still win various age group titles and win the team classification. That would be a very good yield this year.", Markus Adam draws a positive summary shortly before the end of the season.

The team strength is also reflected in the ranking of the best teams. There, the Merkur Cycling Team leads with 4.325 points ahead of Bürstner Duemo (4.230) and Lock8 Cycling (4.077). And in the respective age groups, the drivers in the black and multicolored jerseys from the Norderstedter Druckerei are in the top 3. In the main class, Friedrich Schweizer continues to assert himself ahead of his teammate Stefan Räth. In the Masters 1 class, Daniel Knyss is second, veteran Bernd Weinhold leads in front of Manfred Böhm in the Masters 3 and team driver Christine Goeldner is at the top in the women's Masters 3.

A look at the rest of the program promises excitement. The Jedermann Mecklenburg Giro is followed by the Rothaus Riderman (September 26-28) before the final of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro (October 3) on the “Day of German Unity”.
