Product news: Garmin Connect IQ: Open interface for Garmin wearables

September 28, 2014 by the editorial office

garmin connect iq

Market: With Connect iq Garmin launches a platform that gives developers the ability to create apps and widgets for Garmin wearables for the first time. In addition, with Connect IQ, all recorded sensor data can be used to develop new functions. Future Garmin wearables can be individually tailored to each user. The Software Developer Kit is available now for 2015.

For the first time in its 25-year history, Garmin is providing a developer platform that third parties can use to develop Garmin software Wearables can change. With the software developer kit called Connect iq Compatible Garmin products from 2015 can be individualized and the range of functions can be expanded with the help of self-programmed apps and widgets.

Not only changes such as additional display options are conceivable. With Connect iq you can also help existing products to have completely new functions.

“The best thing about Connect IQ is that you don't have to worry about the hardware. GPS, efficient batteries, sensors and data transmission via ANT+ and Bluetooth - Garmin devices already offer all of this. And for sure even more in the future. A good idea and programming know-how are enough to customize our products, to improve them - or maybe even to create a quasi-new product on existing high-quality and robust hardware.", says product manager Peter Weirether.
