cycling: Brian Cookson: Cycling is leading the anti-doping fight

Cycling: The President of the World Cycling Union UCI, Brian Cookson, announced in an interview with the online portal Insidethegame.com that cycling is currently leading the fight against doping.

"I think we've taken a good step in the right direction", according to Cookson. “A year ago, WADA lost their trust in us. This is now restored.”

The Briton also noted that an independent look at the UCI's anti-doping program has brought credibility back to the federation, as has the introduction of the commission of inquiry.

“Cycling is leading the anti-doping fight”, Cookson continues. "I don't know of any other sport that has opened up so much."

"We set up the commission, which we support financially but works completely independently, to unravel the history of cycling over the past few years and to bring integrity back to cycling," continued the 63-year-old.

Cookson emphasized that this is also one of his main tasks as President. “It has always been my concern that we are morally and ethically against doping. This is also important from a financial point of view. In 2008, the public broadcasters in Germany withdrew from live reporting. At that time there were three WorldTour teams in Germany, today there is none. We are doing everything we can to stop the practices that have affected our sport so badly in recent years."
