Cycling: The Track World Championships 2015 will take place in France. This was announced by the world cycling association UCI on its website. From February 18th to 22nd, the world elite will be looking for their new title holders on the oval in Saint Quentin en Yvelines. The title fights are returning to France after Bordeaux in 2006.
The velodrome in Saint Quentin en Yvelines was only inaugurated in January this year and offers space for 5.000 spectators. It serves as a training base for the national squad and as an important part of the French association's efforts to install a funding model similar to that known from Great Britain.
“We are honored by the decision”, said David Lappartient, President of the French Cycling Federation. "The hosting of such a large event also reflects our commitment to the development of French cycling."
Acting UCI President Brian Cookson added: "We were very impressed by the Velodrome in Saint Quentin en Yvelines and we look forward to the title fights being held here, in front of a knowledgeable audience."
This year the Track World Championships were held in Colombia and were very successful for the German competitors. Kristina Vogel alone secured three titles in Cali (Colombia).
In addition to the World Cup in France, the UCI is again organizing three World Cups this winter. From November 8th to 9th, 2014, the athletes will meet in Guadalajara (Mexico). Then it's off to the Olympic Oval in London, where the second World Cup will be held from December 5th to 7th, 2014. The final will be held in Cali from January 17th to 18th, 2014.
