Product news: Sram Red: The electronic road bike shifting system is taking shape

August 23, 2014 by the editorial office

Market: The US team Bissell is currently running the USA Pro Challenge with Srams electronic shifting. Our colleagues from biker rumour were allowed to take a look at the yet unlabeled throw group.

Already in the spring, the team members were out and about on a prototype of the group, which probably also went by the name Red will trade - at least the lettering under the tape on the lever can be guessed at. According to the statements of the drivers, the performance of the group should be excellent.

The special thing about the group is that the levers, which are similar to those of the normal Red, shift differently than you are familiar with from the Shimano and Campagnolo counterparts. This is how you shift up with the left lever, pressing the right lever moves the chain down. If you press both levers at the same time, the chain on the crank changes from the large to the small chain ring or from the small to the large one.

It is also exciting that the group does not seem to need any cables. There are no cables on either the derailleur or the rear derailleur. This was different during the Tour of California - a sign that Sram seems to be satisfied with its wireless variant. The batteries appear to be attached to the rear derailleur and front derailleur, each above the shifter frame.
