cycling: Oleg Tinkov: Peter Sagan on the way to Fernando Alonso

August 6, 2014 by the editorial office

Cycling: Peter Sagan's contract with Cannondale expires at the end of the year. There is no question that the Slovak is currently one of the most sought-after stars in the sport.

Sagan has often been linked to Team Tinkoff-Saxo in recent weeks. But its owner Oleg Tinkov has now announced via Twitter that he sees Sagan more on the way to Fernando Alonso's FACT project.

And that is quite conceivable. Considering that Cannondale is likely to merge with Team Garmin-Sharp, the Italian team's WorldTour license would be free. This is currently held by Roberto Amadio, the operator of Team Cannondale. The team around the Formula 1 star could take over this without having to take over the previous team. Rather, one could then do justice to one's own claim of installing one's own project. Alonso has already submitted a corresponding application to the UCI.

Should Sagan actually switch to Alonso's team, it will probably take some time before the change is announced. Luis García-Abad, manager of FACT, said last week they would not sign anyone until the 2015 WorldTour license was secured.

In the past few months, the Slovakian has often been associated with Alonso.
