Friedrich Schweizer won his second race in August on Sunday. The Munich rider also drove to victory in the Bremen Challenge after winning the German Cycling Cup race in Bochum 14 days ago. Christian Dengler made the good performance in the Hanseatic city perfect with third place on the day behind the reigning German amateur champion Marek Bosniatzki (Bürstner Duemo). Merkur Druck team captain Daniel Knyss, who won the Bremen race in 2011 and 2012, defended the yellow jersey of the overall leader in the national amateur series with eighth place. For our Merkur Cycling Team it was the sixth victory in the eleventh race in 2014.
“I am very happy about this victory. That was a damn tough race. The extreme wind and the technically difficult new course through the city center of Bremen gave us all a hard time", Friedrich was satisfied after crossing the finish line. “In the end it was a group of 30 men who were fighting for victory. The guys from Bürstner were very strong. But we were able to fend off all attacks and in the end we had luck on our side.”
"Three wins in the last two weeks of August is a damn good result", said main sponsor Markus Adam. "If our team survives the break from racing until the next event in mid-September at the Rothaus Riderman as well as the summer break, we can look forward to a great season finale. In view of the strong other teams, that will be really exciting again!”
Due to another team performance at the Bremen Challenge, the team was able to defend its top position in the ranking of the best team. In addition to Friedrich, Christian and Daniel, Stefan Räth, Alexander Loos and veteran Bernd Weinhold drove a strong race and were tenth, eleventh and 117th after 16 kilometers.
Our captain Daniel Knyss defended his lead in the fight for the German amateur championship with eighth place in front of his permanent rival and German Cycling Cup title defender Marek Bosniatzki. A look at the rest of the program promises excitement. In a month, the Jedermann Mecklenburg Giro (September 15) will continue in the German Cycling Cup. This is followed by the Rothaus Riderman (September 26-28) before am Tag der Deutschen Einheit the final at the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro (October 3rd) is rising.
