Triathlon: The middle-distance elite met in Wiesbaden at the weekend to look for their European title holders. The Belgian Bart Aernouts and the Swiss Daniela Ryf showed the most staying power.
Aernouts took the initiative early on. After a cautious start, he quickly caught up with the front runners around Maurice Clavel from Freiburg. Then he put them under pressure and thus achieved the second change as a soloist. He defended it in the final half marathon. Behind him, Peter Roberston and Clavel eventually took second and third place.
In the women's category, defending champion Daniela Ryf was in a class of her own. She referred the British Leanda Cave to silver. Behind them, Laura Philipp caused a surprise in third place.
