Lifestyle: The Giro d'Italia is coming to Vienna. More precisely, the Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia. On September 14th, Austria's capital will be enriched by a large mass sports event and bathed in rich pink.
A total of two routes will be offered. Those interested can choose between the Gran Fondo over 120 kilometers and the Medio Fondo over 60 kilometers. There will also be the Stiegl Company Giro, an attractive expo at the Vienna Prater and a colorful supporting program.
Last year, the Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia stopped in Jerusalem, New York, Beverly Hills and Miami. In 2014, the series will stop in Europe for the first time. The Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia is well on the way to becoming the largest international event series for amateur cyclists.
Both routes begin directly on Meiereistraße near the Ernst Happel Stadium, from where you set course for the Prater, the Vienna State Opera or the UNO City. Right at the beginning, the participants in the Gran Fondo Vienna are awaited by the Vienna Ringstrasse with its magnificent buildings.

The field is neutralized as far as Wagramerstrasse. Then it continues in the direction of Markgrafneusiedl in Marchfeld. Via Gänserndorf and Angern an der March, the route leads along the March – Thaya Auen nature park, along the Slovakian border and Marchegg back towards Vienna. Across the city on the Danube, the route continues over the Reichsbrücke and the Handelskai to the finish at the Ernst-Happel Stadium. Particularly exciting: the entire route is closed to individual traffic.
Stiegl, Austria's largest private brewery, came up with the Company Giro for company teams from all over Europe. Four to six employees, customers or partners of a company can form a joint team, whereby the average time of the first three finishers will be counted.
